HMV has been Britian’s most beloved music retailer since 1921, solidifying itself as our go-to for CDs, technology, and media. In recent years, HMV has reinvented itself, turning into an emblem of media nostalgia and community for gamers, audiophiles, and movie buffs alike.

After more than a century in business, HMV has evolved to meet the needs of the modern consumer – expanding into gaming, technology, films, and pop culture collectibles. Now diversified, the brand needed a digital presence to match. 

HMV needed greater organic visibility, stronger category-level performance, and a search presence worthy of its legacy. Our goal was clear: drive traffic to key product categories and turn organic search into a major revenue driver.

Our approach

To meet this challenge, we implemented a three stage SEO strategy, using best practices across HMV’s digital platform and opening the door for incremental growth and traffic. 

Technical consultancy 

We built a solid technical foundation to support wider SEO strategy through Meta optimisation for new and existing categories as well as migration support for site adaptations. Our consultancy services are ongoing, monitoring site architecture, page speed, UX, and indexability.

Targeted category content

Product categories such as Technology, Music, Pop Culture, and Film-TV were identified as avenues for potential revenue growth. To boost traffic and rankings, our journalism grade Content team populated 60 pages with relevant, engaging E-E-A-T content and embedding target keywords.

Securing domain authority

We built targeted links focusing on primary categories including Technology (turntables, vinyl, & headphones) to signal HMV as a source of quality information. SEO and industry insight was used to target influencers from these industry niches and create content that is highly relevant to the brand, bloggers, and readership.
